Royals In Brisbane
His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, PC, ADC, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland (Quite a mouthful) and the Duchess of Cornwall dropped in on Brisbane today before heading to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Security was tight but not over the top with plain clothed specialist police or military with large backpacks seen patrolling around the botanical gardens. Along the route a large number of plain clothed and uniformed police officers and presumably royal protection officers kept an eye on the large crowd of locals gathered to catch a glimpse of the heir apparent and the duchess.
I struggled at first to find a good vantage point, remembering from past experience that people up close to the barriers tend to raise their camera phones high in the air to capture anything they can. I walked along the route and ended up right at the end where the Royals would be whisked away to their next venue.
I also remembered that it is hard to get a clear shot due to the Police and security who surround the personalities, however today was made even more difficult with local dignitaries as well as camera men and photographers also added to the mix.
By the time I could get a clear shot they were almost right in front of me and with having the 70-200 lens on, I was limited with just getting a few head shots. I guess I need a second body like the big boys.
All in all I am happy with what I got. All images are Copyright © 2018 Craig Turnbull
